Fawn's best friend: Golden Retriever and baby deer frolic together in backyard

By Daily Mail Reporter

Nice to meet you! Dickens the Golden Retriever approaches a fawn in his owner's backyard and their frolics are caught on camera

When Dickens the Golden Retriever spotted a fawn in his backyard, he didn't bother worrying that its protective mother might be lurking nearby.

Instead, he saw the opportunity to play.

This heartwarming video captures the moment Dickens spots the young deer near his home in Delhi Hills, Ohio and introduces himself.

New friends: While the baby deer looks a little wobbly, it is keen to play

And while the fawn might be slightly wobbly on its skinny legs, it was not too bashful to say hello back, hopping towards its new friend with vigour.

'It's lucky he doesn't have teeth!' Laughs Dickens's owner Susan Bill as she films her pet at play near their home.

On the video, which has received more than 230,000 hits, she says the dog's motto is 'I'd rather play than obey!'

She tries in vain to get Dickens to come to the house, but only manages to get his attention for moments before he bounds off with his new plaything.

Too much fun: While his owner hollers at him to stop, Dickens continues to play

Getting tired: Dickens's owner, who films the interaction from near their home in Ohio, suggests her pet might think the fawn is a puppy

'Are you finished with him?' Susan hollers at Dickens. 'Can you come in now and let his mother take care of him?'

Luckily for Dickens, the baby deer's mother does not make an appearance.

Susan said she only grabbed her camera once she checked Dickens was being gentle, and when she realised the deer was willing to play.

The video was uploaded to YouTube in 2010 and is now being watched on Pawnation.
